It seems that Amazon's drone delivery service has got a little closer this week as the FAA in America, issued a Special Airworthiness Certificate to Amazon Prime Air allowing the company to operate its MK27 unmanned aircraft for research and development and crew training in authorized flight areas. This follows a successful test flight in Cambridge in the UK, where a package was delivered in 13 minutes.

However, for anyone who undertsands the practical constraints of drone aviation, it still seems a long way off before this is rolled out a regular basis. Perhaps with new battery technology the service may arrive sooner than we think, but for the moment, I think it's just pie in the sky! (oops, sorry)
